The Bucket List

February 18, 2012 - by Mark I am big on setting goals, for work and life. Some people call their goals a "bucket list". Things to accomplish in one's lifetime. I made my list when I was 35 and going thru a rough patch in my work and life. I am happy to say that once I made a bucket list, I also started to make committments to achieve the business items on the list. One was change careers and be an HR professional, another was make it to a senior level and be acknowledged for doing something important in my new chosen field. Well it took a few years but I succeeded in accomplishing all of these and even surpassed my own goals. Now my focus is shifting to a couple of non - business items - although I still have 2 career goals left to accomplish. Having the list keeps me focused and gives me purpose. I wish I had made this list earlier in my life, maybe even as early as my college years. I don't really know if that would have been practical back then, however had I done so maybe I would be in a different place today (or maybe life is just a box of chocolates). For students it's a question worth pondering and for some acting upon now. Have some goals and work towards attaining them. Don't wait like I did and enjoy the journey.
